My name is Lucina Martinez. I was born on December 10, 1990 in Mexico City, am 21 years old, undocumented and identify as a lesbian. I moved to the U.S. from Mexico City at age 6 and am currently living in Dallas, Tx. I have spent most of my life in the U.S. going to school. I came out as undocumented in the first grade and came out as a lesbian at around age 15.
I came out to my mother in 2011 and had an interesting outcome. Living life as an undocumented woman and a lesbian has been a difficult journey but the path has allowed me to walk with nothing but truth and acceptance. After graduating from high school, I immediately became involved in the immigrant rights movement. I worked with organizations such as Dream Act Now at the University of Texas at San Antonio, the San Antonio Immigrant Youth Movement, and am currently working with an organization in called QUIR Dallas, an organization specifically for queer undocumented immigrant radical youth in the city of Dallas. I also hope to pursue a career in education and be a history teacher in the near future.
