Jesus A. Barrios was born in Tijuana, Mexico. When he was three and half years old, his family immigrated to the US, where he was raised in South Central LA and now is based out of Pomona, CA. As an undocumented youth he has experienced the process of removing himself from the shadows of fear, shame , and embarrassment that was constructed in him regarding his immigration status and at the same time he was able to do so for his Queer Identity. Developing his consciousness has helped him understand the injustices the two communities he identifies with, face on a daily basis. In efforts to take a stand against attacks on both of these communities, Jesus has organize tirelessly with Immigrant Youth Coalition (CA), shedding a light on the struggle and needs of both Queer and undocumented youth. Jesus is soon to graduate from California State University, San Bernardino, with a BS in Public Health. Jesus aspires to be a Public Health professional, where he hopes to integrate his knowledge of community organizing, self-empowerment, and values of social justice to solve health inequities.
love it, can’t wait for the book.
Jesus Barrios is one of the most courageous, dedicated and effective leaders I have met in my 54 years. I am inspired by Jesus’ ability to mobilize collective efforts to achieve social justice for undocumented immigrants/undocumented Americans, including our gay and lesbian brothers and sisters. His principled leadership, courage, and activism are cause for hope in the future.
